What is Biomagnetism Therapy?

USBioMag

Biomagnetic Pair Therapy— BMP™ is a revolutionary, scientific and therapeutic approach to wellness that differs from traditional medicine, homeopathy, herbs and natural therapies. It is perfectly compatible with any other traditional or alternative modality.

In Biomagnetism we utilize the application of therapeutic grade static magnets in specific pairs on the body using opposite polarities. (north pole/south pole) These pairs can affect the local pH environment in the body, which determines what organisms survive or perish. This process works in tandem with the body’s own ability to regulate and re-establish normal pH, (potential hydrogen) which is known as homeostasis. This amazing and innate ability for the body to repair and heal itself is only possible if the proper nutrients and environment are available. Through the use of magnets we are helping support this environment and normal immune function, allowing healing to begin.

This principles  adhere to the scientific knowledge that magnetic fields are a naturally occurring vibrational phenomenon each with its own properties, effects,   and do not hold a relationship to standard medicine as we know it today. We are working with an already existing force of nature in order to provide an environment that is conducive to the body’s work of pH balancing.

This method and scientific approach to wellness is unlike any other therapy that is used today. It seeks to fundamentally challenge and change the way we view, understand, and support the whole individual on their own unique wellness journey.

Who discovered Biomagnetism?

Biomag
Biomagnetic Pair Therapy (BPT)—developed by Isaac Goiz Durán, MD in Mexico City, Mexico in October 1988.

What is the history of Biomagnetic Therapy?

Dr. Isaac Goiz of Mexico first discovered the medically healing power of “pairs” of magnets over 33 years ago. His revolutionary discovery was inspired after he attended a course on bioenergy held at the medical school of the University of Guadalajara in Mexico, taught by Dr. Richard Broeringmeyer.

Dr. Broeringmeyer shared that the body’s organs and tissues can become magnetically polarized. He used the technique of Kinesiology (muscle test) to locate magnetic polarizations (and pH alterations) in the body.

Inspired and enthused, Dr Goiz experimented with single-poled magnets in pairs and monitored the body’s responses to these applications. Dr. Goiz discovered the first biomagnetic pair consisting of the thymus and rectum on one of his patients. In the years that followed,

Dr. Goiz and his associates researched and uncovered hundreds of biomagnetic pairs. These “Biomagnetic pairs” are meticulously tested in healthcare facilities all over the world.

How does BioMagnetic Pair Therapy help our body?

session

Research has shown that magnetic fields have an effect on all living things when exposed for certain periods of time. The different poles of magnets can influence our bodies in varying ways depending on which pole we use. The north pole negative ( n- ) side of a magnet has an alkalizing or anti-inflammatory effect, while the south pole positive side ( s+ ) has an acidifying or analgesic effect. This is where we begin to understand how magnets can help rebalance pH.

Magnetic fields influence the hydrogen ion-molecule inside the body. Our bodies are made up of approximately 10% hydrogen. It plays a large role in toxin and waste removal, cell hydration, joint lubrication, blood pH regulation, and other functions. This is one of the many ways our bodies achieve and maintain homeostasis and proper immune function. It is critical for us to maintain this pH balance especially in today’s landscape. We can help our body to achieve this by eating the right foods, exercising, getting proper rest, and by using magnets! By placing pairs of magnets on specific areas of the body, we are helping to restore the natural balance to these areas. By influencing the body’s own ability to move hydrogen around, it can begin to achieve bio-energetic balance – homeostasis. Biomagnetic Therapy supports this natural process of healing by giving the body the right tools and environment it needs so that different microorganisms like viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites can be kept in check by our immune system.

Can you explain BMP in layman terms with an example?

Every living thing on the planet needs the right environment to live. Just like we need food, air, and water to survive – organisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites also need their own pH environment to live in as well. Our bodies are made up of mostly water (between 65-75%), and just like a pool or aquarium, if the proper pH balance isn’t maintained then unwanted things can happen.

If the water in a pool turns green then it becomes too alkaline. Things like algae and certain bacteria begin to grow. If the water in a pool turns reddish-brown then it becomes too acidic and other kinds of bacteria begin to grow. Both extremes allow for only a few invasive organisms to thrive in these harsh conditions. If we look at a clean pool of water that has the right balance of everything, many things can thrive in their proper place. Since our body is made up of so much water, it is very similar to a pool so this analogy works best. Just like every living organism, the body has its own requirements to thrive, and is constantly working to maintain the correct environment. When we become over-stressed for long periods of time for weeks, months, or years, and if our immune system is no longer able to keep these organisms in check, they start to change the environment (pH) and can set up shop. This can allow for the right conditions to be met and we start to see things like disease and inflammation. By placing pairs of magnets, we are helping the body rebalance and restore the “pool” so to speak.

What is the importance of pH balance?

When we talk about pH we are talking about hydrogen potential. This is the measurement of how many concentrated hydrogen ion molecules are present in a liquid solution. In order to determine how much potential hydrogen exists in a liquid, we use a pH scale. This scale starts at 0 and goes to 14. 0-6 is referred to as acidic, 7 is referred to as neutral, and 8-14 is referred to as alkaline. Because our bodies are made up of 65-75% water and since hydrogen ions exist throughout our body, it’s important to know what a normal healthy person’s pH is and what role hydrogen plays in our health.

We measure pH in a person primarily through blood pH, although you can measure pH using saliva or urine, with urine being the least accurate. Typical blood pH values exist in the range of 7.36 – 7.41 depending on where you get your measurement. (i.e arterial blood, venous blood)

Each organ in the body has its own pH value requirements in order to function properly (stomach acid pH for example is in the range of 1.5 – 3.5 while pancreatic juice is in the range of 7.5 – 8.0, etc.) and the body knows exactly how to regulate each system accordingly as long as the right conditions are maintained. One of the main ways that the body maintains pH balance is through the digestive process. It’s a very complex process but to simplify it we will discuss two main actions which help to control pH, stomach acid and pancreatic juice.

When we consume foods and substances that are more alkaline such as fresh vegetable juices or raw broccoli for example, the stomach has to produce more hydrochloric acid in order to lower the pH to break down these alkaline foods. This is accomplished through a complex series of chemical reactions produced by the stomach, but the end result is production of more stomach acid (pH of approx. 1.5-3.5) and the insertion of sodium bicarbonate (a pH of approx. 8.3) into the bloodstream to act as a buffer. This action is important to maintain the proper blood pH (7.36-7.41) in order that it doesn’t become too acidic. When we consume acidic foods and substances such as a soda, the stomach doesn’t have to produce as much stomach acid to lower the pH since the soda is already acidic (pH of approx 2.5). This causes the pancreas to have to alkalize the soda before it reaches the small intestine. It does this by producing sodium bicarbonate and digestive enzymes. Because the stomach produced very little stomach acid to break down the soda, very little sodium bicarbonate was inserted into the bloodstream. Instead it was used by the pancreas to neutralize the soda. This means that there was less of an alkaline buffer available for the bloodstream and so in this example, we just lowered the body’s pH by drinking the soda. If we were to continue this habit for a long period of time, it becomes harder for the body to maintain overall health, allowing for conditions of disease to arise.

In a normal healthy individual we do not observe dysfunctions. Part of the reason for this is because the pH of the body is being maintained correctly through diet, exercise, proper sleep, clean water, dietary supplements, etc.  Overall, the body’s homeostatic value is closer to a slightly alkaline/neutral range. This is why we see tremendous health benefits from eating fresh fruits and vegetables, drinking clean filtered water, taking dietary supplements, vegetarian diets, etc.

All of these factors contribute to achieving and maintaining proper body pH. While each of these are extremely important to help maintain health and vitality, it has become increasingly more difficult in the modern world. This is why the therapy can be such a wonderful modality and ally, adding value to our lives and offering us a tool that helps us to achieve optimal wellness.

Can the healthy metabolic state be regained using Biomagnetic Therapy?

The history of using magnets for health and wellness dates back thousands of years, but once Dr. Goiz discovered using magnets in pairs, we began to have a deeper understanding of how these opposing magnetic fields affect hydrogen in the body. This relationship between magnetism and the living organism allows for pH rebalancing and ultimately leading to and recovering a healthy metabolic state. In order to achieve this effect on living organisms, magnetic fields of medium intensity between 1,000-4,000 Gauss must be used. Through the use of pairs in this Gauss range, we can achieve a type of biofeedback or resonance with the surrounding tissue, thus bringing about a local change and rebalancing. This leads to homeostasis by providing the right conditions for the body to do its job.

How does BMP actually work?

From a scientific standpoint, magnetic fields interact with and have the ability to repel or attract hydrogen ions found throughout our body. The process is more complex than that simple statement but to keep things simple, we’ll stay focused on hydrogen. A more in depth discussion on how Biomagnetism and pairs function is offered through course material. It is important to note that all living organisms are affected one way or another by the Earth’s magnetic field and life has developed a relationship with Earth’s subtle magnetic field. Just like life needs the sun, life also needs magnetism in order to live and thrive.

Specifically in the body when BMP (Biomagnetic Pairs) are placed, interactions happen with the hydrogen ions found in the tissue. Myriad of other processes also begin to occur but primarily we’re focused on the pH balancing process. Since pH is what controls and drives the living environment for all bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, the primary goal is to restore normal pH and support immune function. Pairs placed in specific areas in the body. Biomagnetics  allow for changes to occur locally in the environment of the body where pathogens or unwanted microorganisms may be present and affecting the pH. Once these areas are rebalanced, the unwanted microorganisms cannot survive. The body then starts the healing and waste removal process, and healthy cells can begin to restore the affected area.

Finally, the healing process occurs when the pH is balanced and reaches its optimal level that determines the well-being of the person, which before the therapy was altered by the presence of pathogenic microorganisms that distorted the levels of acidity and alkalinity (pH) of the organs. This is what sustains the bio-energetic phenomenon.

Is Biomagnetism similar to magnet therapy?

Throughout history, humans have had a curiosity about the use of magnetism and its relationship to health. As previously mentioned, the use of magnetism for health and wellness goes back thousands of years. Some of the earliest mentions of using magnets can be found in The Yellow Emperor’s Book of Internal Medicine. Philosophers such as Aristotle and Paracelsus also make mention of using magnets for healing and energizing the body. Fast forward to more modern times and we find that research was done in the early 50’s and then again in the late 70’s by researchers such as Albert Roy Davis and Walter C. Rawls using single poles of magnets on various mediums such as plants, human tissue samples, mice, and living people.

No, Biomagnetic Therapy is not similar to magnet therapy in its theory, practice, or application. While some basic scientific principles apply that are synonymous to both therapies, Biomagnetic pair Therapy is vastly different in the types of magnets used and the approach taken to achieve an outcome. Because we are using pairs, we are working with both the positive and negative together to achieve an outcome. Time required for application of pairs can vary from 3-90 minutes and is further discussed in course material.

Traditional magnet therapy typically consists of wearing bracelets, necklaces, shoe inserts, laying on a magnetic pad, etc. Sometimes the use or exposure time with these devices is for hours, days, weeks, and even months. Those magnets are usually found to be in a much lower range of 100-500 Gauss. Other magnet therapy devices can be found on the market with higher Gauss concentrations such as those found in magnetic sleeping pads or PEMF devices, (pulsed electromagnetic field) which can range anywhere from 3,000-14,000 Gauss. Magnet  therapies like these consist of using one pole (usually the north pole negative) to attempt to gain a therapeutic purpose in any given area.

The time it takes for the application of the therapy varies from 20 to 90 minutes depending on the person’s location in relation to the equator, as explained during the certification course.

How do I understand BMP with regards to the AMA Code of Ethics?

The AMA Code of Ethics explains the distinction between therapies such as BMP and the licensed practice of medicine.

While “treatment which has no scientific basis” is condemned (Opinion 3.01), under Opinion 3.04, physicians are free to “refer” a patient “for therapeutic or diagnostic services to another physician, limited practitioner or any other provider of health care services permitted by law to furnish such services, whenever he or she believes that this may benefit the patient.”

Thus, unscientific “treatment” is distinguished from “health care services permitted by law.” “Treatment” — which means the use of standard medicine and surgery to “cure” disease — is distinguished from other health care services (therapies) which need only meet the lesser “may benefit” standard.

Is a prescription required to take Biomagnetic therapy?

While physicians “prescribe” treatments for disease, therapies that may benefit may merely be subject to “referral” thereby further indicating the distinction.

Thus, for example, BMP, used to support normal structure and function, to support therapeutic outcomes, can be seen to complement licensed medicine, but not to be held to its strictures, nor limited in its practice to licensed physicians.

Since such therapies are not prescription services, members of the public may choose such services without the permission of their physician.

What is the future of Biomagnetic therapy?

With more professionals being trained each year, Biomagnetic pair therapy is slowly being incorporated into many various industries–dentistry, chiropractic, medical, veterinarian, etc. In addition, researchers are choosing to analyze the benefits of it. To strengthen this community further and sponsor additional research, USBiomag will be establishing an association.

Where can I find a biomagnetism therapist?
